An Original Dark Poetry piece about facing and overcoming
the seemingly constant struggles of our mortal existence.
Bodies staked out on the beach
Bones bleached by a merciless Sun
Devils dance among the sand dunes
Faltering footsteps erased too soon
And lost just like discarded driftwood
Ripped wide open rotting on the sand
Well weathered by time and tide
Black and bloated from the water
Sea birds pick the rancid remnants
Of what was once so fulfilled
Lies lonely, hollow as a funeral drum
Yearning years under the ocean
Dragged below by the undertow
Wretched weight of all the watchers
Lost on the living who blunder by
Soft sands once a perfect playground
Bathing blindly in benevolent waters
Still, a deadly calm belies the storm
The murderous eddied maelstrom
Which crashes in with turning tides
This turbulent beast never tamed
While we’re drowning in the wake
Such sorry ships pass in the night
Time and tide they wait for none
Now so it seems our time is done
